Experienced Business Manager required for a School located in Gibraltar, you will provide strategic vision and leadership in all aspects of school administration, this will include the following finance, resources, payroll, premises management, health and safety. The ideal candidate will hold an accounting qualification such as ACCA, CIMA (Part of fully qualified) or similar due to the nature of this role.

The Business Manager is responsible for managing the strategy and operation of the business functions of the school, including financial management, health and safety, human resources, compliance and administration. The Business Manager will advise and implement the day-to-day support that enables the school to operate effectively and efficiently, that allows other members of the leadership team to focus on teaching and learning. The role will report to the Board of Governors.

Candidates applying must be local to Gibraltar or already be residing across the border in Spain, all relevant documentation will be required.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Be responsible for line-managing support staff, including carrying out long-term resource planning and managing recruitment, appraisal and professional development.
  • Submit the budget to the governing body, monitor the budget all year round, advising the headteacher where revisions or changes are necessary.
  • Forecast future events, based on the schools estimated funding and trends in expenditure, to enable the headteacher to make strategic, long-term decisions.
  • Be aware of the financial reports that need completing and ensure that these are submitted in a timely manner.
  • Lead on procurement processes, managing tenders where appropriate, conducting due diligence, benchmarking and evaluating suppliers, negotiating deals and ensuring value for money.
  • Responsible for preparing and managing payroll, pensions, PAYE and payment transactions.
  • Under the direction of the headteacher, lead on all financial matters of the school, to ensure the school’s successful financial performance and to ensure financial decisions are clearly linked to the school’s strategic goals.
  • Implement school-wide changes and allocate resources in line with the school improvement plan, putting policies and procedures in place and communicating them to staff.
  • Effectively and sensitively manage conflicts within the workplace, following the school’s Complaints Policy, where necessary.
  • Implement a marketing plan for the school, which utilises the school website, signage, the prospectus, and communications with current and prospective parents.
  • Monitor developments in technology and consider how it can be used to enhance the school’s business processes, teaching and learning, and staff well-being.
  • Attend some leadership team meetings and report to governors where appropriate. Be a highly involved member of the school community and be active in aspects of school life.
  • With the headteacher and premises team, supervise the maintenance of the school site.
  • Manage the health & safety committee, ensuring compliance with the H&S policy.

What You Will Need to Succeed in This Role

  • Ideally ACCA or CIMA or similar part of fully qualified, AAT applicants with extensive experience would also be considered
  • Assertive and strong character, can act on your own initiative
  • Team player with a desire to achieve common goals
  • High attention to details particularly with the production of financial reports
  • Confidant with technology in general
  • Strong Microsoft user, Excel to a high level
