Financial Controller (FP&A/MI) required for an established Insurance office with an established basis in Malta. Reporting to the Associate Head of Finance, the Financial Controller will lead the European management reporting and planning function. You will be responsible for delivering accurate and timely management accounts, insightful variance analysis, cash flow forecasting, and budgets. The Controller will partner with actuarial, underwriting, and claims Heads to ensure technical provisions and performance insights are robust, while leading and developing the Assistant Financial Controllers (AFCs) across the region.

What You Will Be Doing
- Review monthly management accounts for European entities, ensuring accuracy of technical provisions and appropriateness of non-technical postings. Â
- Oversee balance sheet reconciliations and P&L variance analysis, providing timely insights to senior management. Â
- Safeguard data accuracy within underwriting and claims systems to support reliable financial reporting. Â
- Lead the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes across European entities. Â
- Deliver monthly cash flow analyses, forecasts, and scenario modelling to support strategic decisions. Â
- Develop and deliver management information to enhance business performance. Â
- Conduct premium, commission, and reserve reviews, highlighting key movements and recommending adjustments.Â
- Partner with actuarial, claims, and underwriting teams to provide financial insight supporting reserving and performance management. Â
- Drive continuous improvement in FP&A processes, reporting, and analysis through automation and system enhancements. Â
- Support evaluation and integration of new systems relevant to planning and analysis. Â
- Collaborate on reporting to ensure alignment between management reporting, statutory submissions, and audit deliverables. Â
- Prepare inputs for Group deliverables, ensuring accuracy and consistency with local reporting. Â
- Lead, coach, and mentor the Finance team across European entities, fostering development, accountability, and high performance. Â
- Support succession planning and strengthen capability within the FP&A/MI function.Â
What You Will Need to Succeed in This Role
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CPA, or equivalent). Â
- Minimum 7 years’ PQE, demonstrable experience in insurance or financial services. Â
- Technical knowledge of insurance/reinsurance accounting, eg technical provisions and reserving. Â
- Proven track record in financial control, FP&A, budgeting, and forecasting. Â
- Advanced Excel skills; proficiency with financial systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar) and reporting tools (e.g., Power BI) desirable. Â
- Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.Â
- Strong communication skills, capable of engaging senior stakeholders/non-financial colleagues. Â
- Demonstrated leadership experience, with the ability to coach, develop.Â
- Organised, detail-oriented, and able to deliver high-quality outputs under tight deadlines. Â
- Commercially aware, with a proactive, problem-solving mindset.Â
